Bottles

A 5 gallon batch of beer will make approximately 640 ounces of beer. That’s 48 12-oz bottles.

I’m using several different sizes:

– a 2L (64 oz) growler from Cambridge Grewing Company (where we had our wedding celebration)

– 5 22oz bottles (110oz)

– 20 or so 12oz beer bottles

The bottles were sanitized by running in the dishwasher on the "sanitize" cycle

Sanitizing

Anything that touches the beer needs to be sanitized. This includes the bucket, siphon, bottle filler and bottles. Bottle caps are tricky. Technically they should be sanitized, but when I have tried they get rusty which I don’t think is better. So, I don’t do the bottle caps and instead handle them carefully with clean hands – and keep my fingers crossed.
